Voice Prosthesis
A voice prosthesis is a medical device used by individuals who have undergone a laryngectomy, a surgical procedure in which the larynx (voice box) is removed, often due to cancer or other serious conditions. After a laryngectomy, the patient loses the ability to speak because the vocal cords, which are responsible for sound production, are no longer present. A voice prosthesis is designed to help these individuals regain the ability to speak by enabling them to use air from the lungs to create sound, bypassing the removed vocal cords.
