Hands Free HME

The Heat and Moisture Exchange filter is integrated into the device and captures exhaled moisture, helping to humidify the air as it is breathed in. This is important because, after a laryngectomy, patients lose the natural ability to warm, filter, and humidify the air before it reaches the lungs.
The HME helps keep the airway moist, reducing irritation and the risk of infection while also protecting the lungs from dry or cold air.

The speaking valve is a one-way valve that allows air to pass into the lungs during inhalation, but closes during exhalation, directing the exhaled air upwards towards the mouth and nose. This provides the possibility for speech.
Hands-free refers to the fact that the patient does not need to manually cover the stoma to speak. The valve opens automatically with the patient’s inhalation and closes during exhalation, making it easier for the patient to talk without using their hands.
